5.22.17 Brault, Rogers Take Home IL Weekly Honors

May 22, 2017 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

The Indianapolis Indians, in conjunction with the International League, today announced that left-hander Steven Brault and first baseman/designated hitter Jason Rogers were named the IL Pitcher and Player of the Week (May 15-21). Since rejoining the IL in 1998, two Indy players had never previously swept the weekly awards.

Brault, 25, capped his brilliant week on the mound by throwing seven shutout innings with just three hits allowed in the Tribe's 3-2, 11-inning win over Toledo Sunday at Victory Field. The outing brought his ERA to a season-low 2.54 over 49.2 innings pitched. Last Tuesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Columbus, the southpaw surrendered one earned run on two hits over six frames in Indy's 5-1, seven-inning triumph.

For the week, Brault posted a 0.69 ERA (1 ER in 13.0 IP) and limited IL opponents to a .114 average (5-for-44) with 10 strikeouts. The weekly award is his first at the Triple-A level and third of his career, having also been tabbed with weekly honors in the Carolina League (Aug. 25, 2014) and Eastern League (Aug. 3, 2015).

Rogers, 29, earned his first Triple-A weekly honor and third of his career by batting .400 (14-for-35) with two doubles, two home runs, 11 RBI and one stolen base in eight games for the Tribe. He finished among IL leaders during the week in RBI (T-1st), hits (2nd), total bases (T-2nd, 22) and average (T-5th).

Rogers highlighted his week at the plate with five multi-hit performances, including his second three-hit game of the season on Saturday against Toledo. He drove in at least one RBI in six of his eight games played. He wrapped the week by recording an RBI in five consecutive games, the longest RBI streak by a Tribe player this season and third time he's accomplished the feat in his career, most recently from July 11-19, 2014, in six straight games with Triple-A Nashville.

Durham was the last IL team to sweep the weekly awards, doing so in July 2016.
