Great Lakes Loons News Release

DAYTON, Ohio - The Dayton Dragons defeated the Great Lakes Loons 7-1 on Sunday afternoon to complete a four-game sweep at Fifth Third Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Loons (9-15) return to Midland after an 0-4 road trip. Dayton (15-9) swept a series from the Loons for the first time since April 25-27, 2014. The Dragons outscored the Loons 30-2 in the series, and the Loons generated 14 hits in that span.

Left-hander Devin Smeltzer (L, 1-1) saw his 17-inning scoreless streak end in the third inning Sunday on righty John Sansone's two-RBI single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third. Smeltzer struck out seven over five innings.

The Loons shaved a run off the Dayton lead in the top of the fifth. With runners on the corners, a wild pitch from righty reliever Ryan Hendrix brought Mitchell Hansen down the line to make the score 2-1.

Dayton patented big innings in the series, and delivered on that trademark in the bottom of the seventh. The Dragons drew four walks, including one with the bases loaded, and scored another run on a wild pitch as part of a three-run, nine-batter inning.

A two-run home run by Luis Gonzalez, Dayton's fourth of the series, put the finishing touches on the sweep in the bottom of the eighth inning.

After a day off Monday, the Loons return to action on Tuesday, May 2 for a six-game homestand. The Burlington Bees (Angels) arrive in town for a three-game set that begins that night at 7:05 p.m. Broadcast coverage begins at 6:35 on ESPN 100.9-FM.
