Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green to end week at home on Sunday
Bowling Green, KY - On Saturday, the Bowling Green Hot Rods dropped their third straight game in a series against the Lansing Lugnuts, losing by a score of 3-2 at Bowling Green Ballpark.
After an extra-inning defeat the previous night, the Hot Rods fell behind early for the third straight game.
During the second at-bat of the game, outfielder J.B Woodman hit a solo homer against Hot Rods starter Adrian Navas (L, 1-4) to give Lansing an early advantage. They doubled the lead in the second on the first of two RBI singles on the night for second basemen Yeltsin Guidino to go up 2-0.
Offensively, Bowling Green got a RBI double by first basemen Nathaniel Lowe in the bottom of the third inning to cut their deficit in half.
After the other RBI single by Guidino in the sixth to push the lead back to two, Bowling Green came back with a RBI single of their own by catcher Rene Pinto in the bottom of the frame to make the score 3-2.
Unfortunately, that was all the Hot Rods offense could muster. Righty Patrick Murphy (2-0) got the win for Lansing by giving up two runs in 5.2 innings pitched. Four relievers combined to blank the Hot Rods through the final 3.1 innings, with righty Jackson McClelland (S, 4) finishing off the game with a scoreless ninth inning.
Earning the loss for the Hot Rods was Navas, who tossed a quality start by giving up three runs in six innings while striking out a career-high ten batters.
His ten strikeouts was the most for any Hot Rods pitcher this year.
With the loss, the Hot Rods have now clinched their first series loss at home for the 2017 season. It is the first time Bowling Green has lost three straight games at home to the same opponent since June 23 - 25 last year against Fort Wayne.
The Hot Rods will finish their week in Southcentral Kentucky with the final game of a four-game set against the Lansing Lugnuts on Sunday afternoon. Bowling Green will send LHP Kenny Rosenberg to the mound while Lansing will counter with RHP Mike Ellenbest.
First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. central time at Bowling Green Ballpark.
