Offense Collects 16 Hits in Bees Win

The Salt Lake Bees won their third straight game by taking down the El Paso Chihuahuas 13-5 at Smith's Ballpark on Thursday night.
The Bees offense pounded out 16 hits, collecting double-digit knocks for the 10th consecutive game. Rey Navarro led the hit parade with a 3-for-5 night, collecting four RBIs to lead the team. Every member of the Bees lineup reached base safely at least twice, with only Kaleb Cowart failing to collect a hit. Cowart went 0-for-2 with three walks to snap his hitting streak at nine games. Eric Young Jr. finished 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games, including nine straight with two or more hits.
"I think we're just having good patience and driving it," Navarro said. "You have to have confidence in your teammates. If you get a walk, you have to have confidence that the guy behind is you is going to drive you in or move the runner over. That confidence that we have in each other is working right now."
The two teams traded runs to begin the game and were deadlocked at five apiece after five innings before the Bees broke it open against the El Paso bullpen, scoring two in the sixth, one in the seventh and five in the eighth. Salt Lake finished the game with at least one run scored in every inning except for the second. Alex Meyer got the start for the Bees but did not factor into the decision leaving after four innings with eight hits allowed, five runs and six strikeouts. The Bees bullpen picked up Meyer with five scoreless frames, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out another seven with Drew Gagnon getting his first win of the year.
