Biscuits Fall to Barons in Series Opener

Eddy Alvarez two-run home run gives Barons 5-3 win

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The Biscuits (11-9) lost their series opener against the Birmingham Barons (8-13), 5-3, on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

It was a rough night for Greg Harris (1-1) who went six innings surrendering four runs (three earned) on four hits on his way to suffering his first loss of the season.

The Barons got on the board first thanks to an Eddy Alvarez two-run homer to put Birmingham up 2-0 in the third. The Biscuits would respond with an RBI-single by Riley Unroe in the bottom half of inning after Nathan Lukes led off with a triple. Unroe has now reached base safely in all 16 starts at the Double-A level.

Down 3-1 Montgomery brought across a run in the sixth on a Colby Rasmus sac-fly and another in the seventh on a throwing error to climb back within one after a Trey Michalczewski solo homer in the sixth. But an RBI-single by the Barons third baseman would put the game out of reach in the eighth

Matt Cooper (1-0) got the win throwing 6.1 innings and allowing just three runs on five hits. Harris was saddled with his first Double-A loss, but a Biscuits pitcher has still yet to allow more than three earned runs in any of the first 20 starts this season.

The Biscuits continue their series against the Barons Friday night when right-hander Hunter Wood (1-1) takes the hill against righty Spencer Adams (0-4) at 7:05 PM.
