Jackson Generals News Release

Biloxi, Miss. - Almost everything went right for the Generals as Jackson pummeled Biloxi 11-0 at MGM Park Monday night. The Generals combined for 11 extra-base hits, with four coming from infielder Jamie Westbrook. Three pitchers combined on the team's third shutout win of the year as well.

The team's 11 extra-base hits came two shy of tying a Southern League record. The Generals accounted for eight doubles, a triple and a pair of home runs in the victory.

Jackson (11-6) wasted no time jumping out in front, plating a pair in the first inning. An error and a walk promptly put two men on base. With one out, Rudy Flores sliced a double the other way to score Kevin Medrano and get the Generals on the board. Jamie Westbrook's big day started two batters later with a double to score Flores, making it 2-0.

Westbrook came through again in the third inning, With two men on and one out, Westbrook lashed a triple into the gap in left-center field to double the Jackson lead. He also set the table for Kelly Dugan in the fifth with a double that pushed Rudy Flores to third. Dugan followed with a monstrous shot to right-center field, putting Jackson on top 7-0.

The Generals were not done and Westbrook was not either. With two outs in the sixth, Rudy Flores and Victor Reyes hit consecutive doubles to add to Jackson's tally. Westbrook drove home Reyes with another two-bagger that made it 9-0. He finished the night with four extra-base hits in five at-bats and a season-best four runs batted in. Coming into the contest, Westbrook had just two hits in his last 36 at-bats.

Jackson added runs in the eighth and ninth innings to finish with 11 runs on the night. Victor Reyes drove in an eighth inning run with a double and Kelly Dugan led off the ninth with his second shot of the night to cap off the scoring. Dugan joined Westbrook with four RBI in the contest, while Reyes and Flores each added three hits.

Josh Taylor (2-1, 2.25) earned the victory behind five scoreless frames on the mound. He gave up just one hit, but gave the Generals a pair of singles at the plate. Grant Sides pitched three scoreless innings behind him, and Miller Diaz struck out two in a perfect ninth to finish off the shutout.

Biloxi (7-11) got just five outs from starter Taylor Williams (0-1, 0.93), who took the loss despite giving up just two unearned runs. Jon Perrin allowed seven runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings behind Biloxi's starter, while former General Forrest Snow was responsible for Jackson's final two scores.

The eight doubles were a season-high for the Generals. Kelly Dugan joined Kevin Cron, Dawel Lugo and Stewart Ijames with his multi-homer game in the victory. Jackson kept pace atop the North Division with the win, maintaining a one-game lead over Montgomery.

Jackson can clinch the series in Biloxi Tuesday night. Former Shucker Brooks Hall (0-0, 8.10) gets the ball for the Generals against Luis Ortiz (0-2, 4.50), who was acquired by Milwaukee last year in the deal that sent Jonathan Lucroy to Texas.
