Grand Rapids Drive News Release

GRAND RAPIDS- The Grand Rapids Drive (24-24) won their second consecutive game against an Eastern Conference division leader, defeating the Maine Red Claws (28-20) by a 107-95 final in front of an 11 a.m. matinee crowd featuring 2400 kids from the Meijer School Day Game.

The Red Claws jumped out to an early 15-5 lead, but Drive fought right back and got a 10-point lead of their own before the end of the first. They maintained it for the second, leading by as much as 16, and hit halftime up 52-39.

Maine had a strong start to the third quarter and closed the lead to 61-56 with seven minutes left in the third, but the Drive were able to respond with a 5-0 run to get it back up to double digits and did not look back. They tacked on another run nearing the end of the third capped by Lorenzo Brown beating the buzzer at the end of the third to give the home team an 82-64 advantage.

Brown led all scorers for the second game in a row, putting up 30 points with 11 rebounds and four assists. Kevin Murphy chipped in 27 points and 13 boards, showing no ill effects from missing all but four minutes of the previous game with a lower-body injury. Jordan Mickey led the Red Claws on assignment from the Boston Celtics with 21 points and nine rebounds, Abdel Nader scored 16 and Marcus Georges-Hunt had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Drive were relentless pushing the ball and getting into the paint in transition, carrying a smaller roster on the day with no players over 6'8. They shot just 41 percent from the field but forced 20 turnovers, coughing the ball up just 10 times and managed to get up 17 more field goal attempts than Maine.

Grand Rapids takes on the Westchester Knicks on the road on Thursday before their season finale the next day against the Canton Charge at home. The Red Claws' next game is on the road at Greensboro on Friday Mar. 31.
