Halifax,NS- Chad Frazier made the first of two free throws with 0.8 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Cape Breton Highlanders a 100-99 victory over the Halifax Hurricanes at Scotiabank Centre on Sunday afternoon. It was the second time this season that Cape Breton has defeated their provincial rivals on Halifax's home court.
The Hurricanes jumped out to a 30-23 advantage following the first quarter. Cape Breton stormed back in the second, to cut the deficit to just 2 points as the teams headed to the locker rooms at halftime 49-47. The Hurricanes outscored the Highlanders 30-28 in the third quarter. Halifax held a 99-96 lead with 39 seconds left in the fourth, but Highlanders' Billy Rush hit a clutch 3-pointer to tie the game at 99.
Michael Poole had 26 points and 7 rebounds to pace Halifax's offense. Antoine Mason chipped in with 20 points and 4 rebounds and Billy White had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Frazier led Cape Breton's attack with 20 points and 6 rebounds while Charles Mann Jr. and Hank Thorns had 17 points each.
The Hurricanes now have a two-week break before returning to action on Sunday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. for a home game against the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans.
