Grand Rapids Assigns Caito to Toledo

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday assigned defenseman Matt Caito to the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.

Skating in his first full professional season, Caito, 23, has played 13 games with the Griffins this year, logging two points (1-1 - 2), a plus-one rating and six penalty minutes.

Caito has appeared in 14 contests with the Walleye during this year's campaign and registered seven points (5-2 - 7), while tying for fifth among team defensemen in goals. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound blueliner adds a plus-eight rating and 12 PIM.

A native of Coto de Caza, Calif., Caito debuted in eight regular season games and chipped in five points (2-3 - 5) with the Walleye at the end of the 2015-16 season after concluding a four-year collegiate career at Miami University. He notched 151 career games with the RedHawks from 2012-16, totaled 72 points (16-56 - 72) and led the team's defensemen in scoring during his first three years on campus.

The Central Division-leading Griffins host Rockford on Friday at 7 p.m.
