Rockets Finish Strong Month of February on High Note

The Kelowna Rockets played their final game of February on Sunday when they visited the Spokane Chiefs for their fourth and final meeting of the season.

The Chiefs had the Rockets number all season handing them three overtime losses, including one on February 17th at home. On Sunday the Rockets finally shook that monkey off of their back in a 9-5 victory in the Spokane Arena.

That game was the 13th of 13 Rockets games during the short month of February in which the Rockets posted a record of 10-2-1-0 and outscored their opponents 72-34 over that span.

The Rockets were led through those 13 games by Nick Merkley (10G, 11A) and Dillon Dube (6G, 15A) who each finished the month with 21 points.

Kole Lind was awarded player of the week honours for the week of January 3oth - February 5th after recording eight points in three games (3G, 5A) as the Rockets went 3-0-0-0 that week.

Brodan Salmond was named goaltender of the week for the week of February 6th - February 12th by both the WHL and CHL after going 2-0-0-0 that week while posting a 1.000 SV% and a 0.00 GAA and two shutouts back-to-back against the Vancouver Giants.

Throughout the month the Rockets defeated the Calgary Hitmen 8-2, Prince George back-to-back 3-2 and 5-1, Vancouver 6-0 and 5-0 back-to-back, Seattle 6-3, Prince George again 5-2, Edmonton 10-1, Kamloops 8-2 collecting their first win of the season in Kamloops, and finally Spokane 9-5. They lost to Kamloops 6-0, Spokane 5-4 in overtime, and Seattle 5-3.

Michael Herringer posted a record of 6-2-0-0 in the month of February.

Kole Lind is the current points leader on the Rockets with 78 points (28G, 50A) in 61 games thus far including 20 in the month of February. Calvin Thurkauf leads in goals with 30 including eight this month.

The Rockets will look to build off that February momentum as they enter the final nine regular season games, they currently have a record of 37-21-5-0 thus far.

Kelowna is back in action tomorrow on Wednesday night as they host the Prince George Cougars for their final meeting of the season.
