Chicago Bandits Name Kyla Holas as Assistant Coach

February 27, 2017 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) News Release

ROSEMONT IL - The Chicago Bandits have named Kyla Holas as the team's assistant coach, general manager Toni Calmeyn announced Monday morning.

Holas, who most recently served as the head coach at the University of Houston from 1999-2016, compiled an impressive 563-376-1 record with the Cougars. Her run included seven NCAA regional appearances and two super regional berths.

"We're excited to bring Kyla Holas aboard for the upcoming season," Calmeyn said. "She brings years of experience at the collegiate level and we're looking forward to seeing her continue to develop players here in Rosemont."

During her 16-year tenure in Houston, Holas earned Conference-USA Coach of the Year twice (2007, 2008) and captured three regular season championships. Additionally, she oversaw the construction of the Cougar Softball Stadium prior to the 2002 season, a complex costing $2.4 million.

Holas' prior coaching duties included stops at Florida and Northern Illinois.

As a four-year standout pitcher at Louisiana-Lafayette (then named the University of Southwestern Louisiana), Holas was named a three-time All-American. She compiled a 104-20 career mark in the circle, but also did yeoman's work at the plate, finishing her collegiate career with a .301 batting average. Louisiana-Lafayette inducted her in the school's Hall of Fame in 1999. Holas' No. 11 jersey is also retired by the school.

Holas will join a Bandits coaching staff featuring Sharonda McDonald, who was tabbed as the team's next head coach on Feb. 21, 2017.
