Jesseau Strikes Game Winner to Defeat Roanoke 2-1

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - Dustin Jesseau tallied the game-winning goal with under three minutes to go in regulation as the Mississippi RiverKings (24-16-2) took game one of a two-game weekend series against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs (13-21-6) on Friday night 2-1.

In a scoreless first period, the RiverKings withstood two power play opportunities from the Rail Yard Dawgs behind strong defense by Brad Barone, who deflected all 13 shots by Roanoke.

The Rail Yard Dawgs and the RiverKings both continued to show resilient defense until late in the second period. With a goal from left wing by Jackson Brewer, Ronoake pulled ahead 1-0 on the power play.

The RiverKings answered on a rebound wrist shot by Ryan Marcuz in the final seconds of play in the period. Marcuz, who extended his goal steak to five games and point scoring streak to nine games, was assisted by Mike Grace and Brant Sherwood on the goal to knot the game 1-1.

After a scoreless start to the period, the RiverKings found the back of the net late. Dustin Jesseau struck the game winning goal past a diving Roanoke goalie James Kruger to put the RiverKings ahead 2-1 with just under three minutes of play to give the RiverKings the victory.

Brad Barone (14-10-2) showed another impressive performance, stopping 35 of 36 shots from the Rail Yard Dawgs. James Kruger (1-8-1) took the loss for Roanoke deflecting 29 of 31 shots.

The Mississippi RiverKings are bound for a rematch against the Rail Yard Dawgs for a 7:30 game for Pink in the Rink night at the Landers Center.
