February 19, 2017 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The IceDogs were in Sudbury to close out the northern swing of their 5-game roadtrip this afternoon, as they looked to finish the weekend on a positive note against a team they've had success against this season. The ‘Dogs have won 3 of 4 meetings thus far, and are looking to continue their success.

To start the game, the IceDogs controlled much of the play, testing the Wolves' goalie, but not getting the chances to put the puck in the net. Aaron Haydon was feeling inspired by the Wolves' superhero jerseys and got us on the board early in the first, capitalizing on the first powerplay of the game to take the 1-0 lead. Haydon's 7th goal of the season was assisted by St. Catharines native, Danial Singer, and Ondrej Machala. The Wolves tested Stephen Dhillon late in the first period, but he came up strong to bring the 1-0 lead into the second period.

The 2nd period brought a burst of offense by the ‘Dogs. At the 2-minute mark, Justin Brack scored to double the IceDogs lead by netting his own rebound, and just 36 seconds later, Ondrej Machala scored to extend the lead to three. Danial Singer and Bradey Johnson picked up the assists on Machala's 7thgoal of the season. Minutes after Machala's goal, Kirill Maksimov scored the ‘Dogs' 4th goal of the game after squeezing the puck past the Wolves' goalie. Oliver Castleman and Justin Brack picked up the assists on Maksimov's goal. Sudbury scored to get on the board, but Castleman couldn't be stopped on the breakaway to extend the IceDogs' lead to 5-1. Ondrej Machala collected the lone assist on Castleman's marker. Sudbury added another goal nearing the end of the 2nd, to bring a 5-2 score into the 3rd period.

Early in the 3rd period, Sudbury scored a pair to cut the ‘Dogs lead to 1. The Wolves pressed hard in the dying minutes to tie the game, but the IceDogs held on for the 5-4 win, and an important 2 points in the standings!

The IceDogs return home on March 2nd as they take on the Kitchener Rangers for a 7:00 puck drop. Tickets are still available for this game and can be purchased online HERE or in person at the following locations:
