Cleveland Monsters News Release

CLEVELAND - The AHL's defending Calder Cup Champions, the Cleveland Monsters, proudly powered by Constellation, defeated the Rockford IceHogs on Friday in front of 13,112 fans at The Q by a final score of 2-0. With the win, the Monsters improved to 18-15-1-3 overall this season and with a .541 points percentage, currently sit alone in fourth place in the AHL's Central Division standings.

After a scoreless first period, Monsters defenseman Blake Siebenaler provided Cleveland with a 1-0 lead at 17:17 of the middle frame thanks to an even-strength, transition setup from Justin Scott and Sonny Milano. In the third, former IceHog Alex Broadhurst collected his eighth marker of the season, a five-on-five finish made possible by assists from T.J. Tynan and John Ramage at 13:31, that established the Monsters' final margin of victory at 2-0.

Monsters goaltender Brad Thiessen impressed in victory, improving to 1-3-0 in net for Cleveland by virtue of a 32-save performance, just the second shutout notched by a Monsters net-minder this season. Meanwhile, IceHogs backstop Jeff Glass collected 17 saves in defeat to fall to 2-2-0 between the pipes this year.

Next up for the Monsters, it's a Saturday road clash vs. the Grand Rapids Griffins with full coverage, live from Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, MI, underway at 7:00 pm on 99X and the Monsters Hockey Network.
