MISSISSAUGA, Ontario- The Austin Spurs (11-15) defeated the Northern Arizona Suns (12-12), 106-101, at the 2017 NBA Development League Showcase.
Cory Jefferson paced the Spurs with 23 points, nine rebounds and three blocks in 34 minutes. Ryan Arcidiacono scored 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting to go with six boards and four assists in 32 minutes. Daniel Nwaelele netted 12 points with eight rebounds and two steals in 29 minutes.
The two teams traded blows throughout the first half, with ten lead changes, two ties and neither team holding an advantage larger than eight points. Arcidiacono's 16 first-half points helped put Austin up 52-46 at the break.
The Spurs maintained their lead throughout the third quarter and extended it to 12 points after connecting on 11-of-21 attempts from the field as a team (52%). Austin finished the third quarter on a 7-2 run to go up 79-71.
Trailing 85-75 early in the fourth, the Suns rolled off a 17-6 run to take their first lead since the 5:31 mark of the second quarter at 92-91. Austin scored on the ensuing possession to take the lead back for good, hitting all 10 of their free-throws the rest of the way to stave off a comeback.
All five Suns starters scored in double figures, led by Derrick Jones Jr.'s 23 points with five rebounds in 40 minutes. Johnny O'Bryant scored 17 points with five boards and two blocks in 30 minutes. Elijah Millsap had 15 points, five steals and two blocks in 33 minutes. Askia Booker added 15 points and six assists in 33 minutes.
The two teams will meet again for their next game in Austin on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. ET.
