Five Things to Watch Tonight vs. Kansas City

January 20, 2017 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH VS THE COMETS TONIGHT

1. Tavernese and Gibson

Syracuse and Kansas City each have one of the top scorers in the MASL, Joey Tavernese and KC's Leo Gibson. In just nine games, Joey's scored 17 times for Syracuse - contrasted to Gibson who has 14 goals and a whopping 16 assists in 12 games. The winner of the scoring battle between these two could dictate which club wins the match.

2. Austin's Powers

The Silver Knights made their first player move since November, with the addition of forward Austin Tom. Like all clubs, the Silver Knights are looking to score more goals. The match versus KC will be Tom's first with the club this season. He scored three goals for Syracuse as a rookie last year. He's a wild card in this one - he may not play or he could play a lot. We won't know until kickoff.

3. Naughty Naughty

Syracuse gets a break this match, as two Comets found themselves on the MASL Suspension Report this week. Kansas City will be without its third leading scorer, Ramone Palmer, who got caught landing "a blow to the head," and defender Robert Palmer, who picked up a straight red card against San Diego. KC will need players to step up in their absence.

4. The Hazardous Matingou

In his last match, all Comets defender Alain Matingou did was score three goals, including the game-winner that went between the legs of San Diego keeper Boris Pardo with less than 30 seconds to go in the match. The Comets are hot, too, winners of three straight on the road. If Syracuse wants to win in KC, they need to stop Alain Matingou from having an impact on the match.

5. Smart Soccer

Syracuse avoided silly mistakes and penalties against Harrisburg. The Silver Knights also showed nice composure on the ball in the second half, finishing out the match after letting games slip away earlier this season. It will take a clean game and smart soccer to get this much-needed road win.
