Rockets Lose in OT to Warriors 3-2

January 19, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release

The Moose Jaw Warriors defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday night at Prospera Place

The Rockets scored in the first period but the goal was called back on an interference penalty. That was the only rubber that entered either net through the first 20.

The game opened up in the middle frame. The Warriors took a two goal lead but Nick Merkley danced around the Warriors defence and finished off with a wraparound goal that drew the Rockets within one late in the period. 2-1 was the score headed into the final stanza.

Early in the third period Calvin Thurkauf scored his 20th of the season on a short-side snapshot that beat Warriors goaltender Brody Willms over the left shoulder. The game was knotted at 2-2 and stayed that way. Regulation time solved nothing so it was off to overtime.

The Warriors would end it halfway through the extra frame and the Rockets lost 3-2 in overtime.

Michael Herringer fell to 19-10-3-0 on the season.

The Rockets drop to 26-16-4-0 on the year.

The Rockets are back in action on Friday night when they visit the Vancouver Giants in Langley.

Kelowna's next home game is Saturday January 21st when they take on the Portland Winterhawks at Prospera Place.

Tickets are available for Rockets home games through www.selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
