Rockets Gear up for Their Only Meeting with the Warriors

January 17, 2017 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release

While on the road the Rockets picked up back-to-back wins against the Victoria Royals defeating them 4-3 last Wednesday, and 9-2 the following Saturday. Kelowna then travelled south of the border for a Monday afternoon bout in which they lost to the Everett Silvertips 5-4.

This is the only matchup against the Rockets and Warriors this season, unless the two meet in the WHL finals.

Head Coach Jason Smith says the Rockets prepare for a team that they rarely see the same way they do for anyone else.

"Mostly we get prepared by watching video. We need to worry about what we're going to do as team with our systems, structure, and our work ethic," said Smith.

"If we go out and play with energy, and do what we've worked on we'll get the results we want."

Smith spoke about discipline being a key factor.

"Discipline is something we need to be better at. We've talked to some players individually as well as the whole group." Smith said. "We made sure we talked about the difference in a game that special teams can make."

Kelowna currently has a record of 26-16-3-0. That leaves them sitting tied for second in the B.C. division with the Kamloops Blazers at 55 points each, just nine points back of the division leading Prince George Cougars.

Moose Jaw enters Wednesday evening with a record of 26-11-6-1. They're second in the East division with 59 points, just six points shy of the East leading Regina Pats.

After the Wednesday night battle with the Warriors the Rockets are back in action on Friday night when they visit the Vancouver Giants.

Kelowna's next home game is Saturday January 21st, when they face off against the Portland Winterhawks at Prospera Place.

Tickets are available for Rockets home games through www.selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
