WHERE WE STAND The Monarchs (28 points) enter tonight's contest one point out of the lead in the North Division, trailing the Adirondack Thunder. Manchester finds themselves one point out of the top spot in the Eastern Conference, and their 13 wins are tied with the Florida Everblades for the most in the Conference.
HIT 10 Norfolk enters the week at the bottom of the ECHL (10 pts.), and with their overtime win last night in Adirondack, finally reached the 10 point mark. Despite the win, Norfolk still trails the Brampton Beast by four points for the lowest point output in the ECHL.
POWER(LESS) PLAY Norfolk's power play ranks last in the league at 5.4% coming into tonight's game, having scored only three goals in 56 power play attempts. Meanwhile, Manchester's power play is fourth-best in the league, scoring on 24% of their chances (18-for-75).
WHERE'S THE OFFENSE? The Admirals are scoring 1.90 goals per game, ranking them last in the league when it comes to lighting the lamp. The Monarchs offense almost doubles Norfolk's scoring output, averaging 3.64 goals per game, good for sixth in the ECHL.
PLAYING CATCH-UP The Admirals have rarely played from in front this season, having led a mere four games after the first period all season and only one game after the second period. Taking a lead into an intermission hasn't helped Norfolk, as the team has a 1-1-2-0 record when leading after the 1st period, and a 0-0-1-0 record when taking a lead into the 3rd period.
DOWNHILL SLIDE Norfolk hasn't found the win column much recently, going 2-6-2-0 in their last ten games, having been outscored, 40-24, in that time period. On the season, the Admirals have taken the only points out of a game once, having posted one win in regulation on the season.
ON TARGET Rihards Bukarts has quickly found a home in the Monarchs rotation, as the rookie skater has scored five goals, including a hat-trick, since being assigned by the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) on Nov. 23. More impressively, Bukarts is tied for the league lead in shooting percentage with former Monarchs forward, Austin Block, converting on 35.7% (5-of-14) of his shots on frame.
