Vancouver Giants News Release
Vancouver, B.C. - Dylan Plouffe scored the overtime winner to lift the Vancouver Giants to a thrilling 2-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday night at the Langley Events Centre. Matt Barberis scored the other Vancouver goal while Ryan Kubic made 25 saves in the Giants' net. The G-Men have now earned points in three consecutive games.
Barberis gave the G-Men the lead in the first half of the opening period when he scored on a wrist shot from the left circle. Vancouver held the 1-0 lead until the third period when James Shearer cashed in on a power play for Brandon to tie the game and eventually send it to overtime.
Kubic came up big in the extra stanza, making an important stop on a one-timer from Wheat Kings defenceman Kale Clague. Plouffe gave Vancouver the victory when the Giants had an extra man on the ice due to a delayed penalty against Brandon, hammering a slap shot past Brandon goalie Logan Thompson from the right point. It was Plouffe's second goal of the season.
The Wheat Kings out shot Vancouver 26-24.
The Giants will visit the Kamloops Blazers at 7:00pm on Saturday night at the Sandman Centre.
