The Capitols struck first with center Noah Weber's fourth tally of the season at 4:19 of the opening frame. Right wing Easton Brodzinski stopped an attempted clearing pass from a Rough Riders defenseman and carried the puck toward the right face-off circle. Furthering their lead, RoughRiders forward Marc McLaughlin passed the puck from the end boards to forward Liam Walsh who was stationed out front. Walsh one-timed the puck past Lebedeff's glove side 12 seconds into the third period.

The closing goal came from forward Justin Cole. Forward Steven Agriogianis passed to Johnson at the hash marks. Cole fired the puck on an open net to put the RoughRiders up by three at 5:12 of the third period.
