Bucs Sneak Past Lancers in OT

Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - The Lancers came back from two separate deficits, but weren't able to ever take a lead as Des Moines topped Omaha 4-3 on Friday night at Buccaneer Arena.

Newly acquire Tommy Nappier, Greg Printz, and Cole Gallant all made their Lancers debut tonight. Derek Hamelin recorded the first multipoint game of his USHL career with a pair of assists.

Des Moines broke the ice in the first and had the only tally in the first period. David Keefer's pass broke Kobe Roth free on a break-away. Roth made sure to capitalize sending a backhand shot high past Tommy Nappier on the blocker side giving Des Moines a 1-0 lead.

It took only a few seconds on the Buccaneers second power play opportunity of the night to extend that lead to 2-0. Matthew Hudie won the draw right back to Erik Holmstrom who one-timed the puck right past Tommy Nappier in the Omaha cage. With time winding down in the second Omaha found an answer for Nick McNab in the form of a pair of Filip's.

Derek Hamelin, at the left point, fired a quick pass to Filip Suchy in the high slot. The Czech forward, without looking, put a backhand pass onto the tape of a waiting Filip Rydstrom on the back door. The Lancer captain buried the puck into an almost empty net with only 0:12 remaining in the middle frame.

That momentum carried over into the third. Pierce Crawford, cutting across the blue line, threw the puck towards the front of the net. Crawford's shot found its way to the back of the net, knotting the game at 2-2. The Bucs came right back and found an answer. Solag Bakich beat Nappier to give the Bucs the lead once more, this time at 3-2.

Lancers controlled the third period and it finally paid off. Mitch Perrault scored from the left corner to tie the game at 3-3 at 7:07 of the third. Omaha outshot the Bucs 12-5 in the frame but nothing was settled as this one was destined for overtime.

In the extra frame for only the second time this season, Omaha saw Des Moines' Collin Rutherford end the game on the power play only 2:57 into the extra period to take the win, 4-3.

Tommy Nappier made 22 saves on 26 shots in his Lancers debut, taking the loss.
