St. John's IceCaps News Release

ST. JOHN'S, NL - - The St. John's IceCaps are once again teaming with Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) to host a morning of workshops focused on social media awareness and creating respectful schools.

One hundred Grade 4-6 students from the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District (NLESD) will take part in the St. John's IceCaps' 'Be a Buddy - Caring Schools Initiative', Saturday at Mile One Centre. The program will also include participation from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

While the initiative focuses on the importance of respectfulness, friendship and leadership, the children and their parents will also watch the IceCaps and visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins practice and return for the game that afternoon.

"Children deserve the right to learn and play in a safe environment," said IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams. "The IceCaps are proud to continue this partnership which helps our youth flourish within respectful communities."

Amanda Dean, Vice President, Atlantic, says IBC's partnership with the IceCaps is about raising awareness and helping keep families safe. "We know that bullying of any sort, but particularly cyber bullying, has long-lasting effects." said Ms. Dean. "With workshops such as today's, we can work together to make our communities safer by protecting our students and giving them the tools to protect themselves."

The IceCaps will hold a ceremonial puck drop to acknowledge the program and will show video messaging throughout the game highlighting key messages of the Be a Buddy - Caring Schools Initiative.

IceCaps tickets can be purchased in person at the Mile One Centre box office (noon-5 p.m.), by phone at 709-576-7657 (9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.), or online at www.mileonecentre.com .
