3 THINGS TO KNOW
Andrighetto named CCM/AHL Player of the Week: Andrighetto notched three goals and three assists for six points in three games as the IceCaps wrapped up their season-opening road trip on a high note.
Special-Special Teams: The IceCaps special teams have helped lead the team to victory as they have the 2nd best penalty kill (96.2%) in the league and the 3rd best powerplay (34.8%).
Welcome Lafleur: Montreal legend Guy Lafleur will participate in opening ceremonies Friday night and tickets are still available. Friday, Oct. 21 STJ 4 vs PRO 1 RECAP Nikita Scherbak, Markus Eisenschmid and Sven Andrighetto tallied their first goals of the year and newcomer Charlie Lindgren turned aside 50 shots as the IceCaps topped the Bruins 4-1. Charles Hudon also tallied a second period goal as the St. John's IceCaps picked up their first win of the season. Saturday, Oct. 22 SPR 5 vs STJ 4 OT RECAP Charles Hudon's second goal of the night gave the St. John's IceCaps a 3-1 lead, but it wasn't enough as the Thunderbirds scored two late goals to force overtime. Mackenzie Weegar beat Yann Danis - making his IceCaps debut - 1:42 into overtime to hand St. John's the loss. Sunday, Oct. 23 STJ 5 vs HFD 2 RECAP Sven Andrighetto scored just 36 seconds into the game to get St. John's rolling as the IceCaps topped the Wolf Pack 5-2.
The IceCaps penalty kill set the tone as they killed off nine Wolf Pack extra man opportunities. Charles Hudon's first period goal extended his goal streak to three games as he has four in his past three contests.
