Halifax Hurricanes News Release

Halifax, NS - The Halifax Hurricanes and Head Coach Kevin Keathley announces the signing of power forward Myles Taylor and guard Shaquille Johnson.

Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Myles Taylor starred at the University of Tennessee at Martin from 2011 to 2016. At 6'7", 245 lbs, Taylor was considered one of the top post players of the Ohio Valley Conference. In 2012, Myles was honored with OVC Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year. He was selected as an All-Conference performer and finished his college career as the all-time leading scorer for the Skyhawks with over 1700 points recorded. "Adding Myles to our front court immediately gives us a scoring threat on the blocks," remarks Coach Keathley. "Myles is a player who can score in a variety of ways. He can face the basket and has a strong back-to-the-basket-game as well. He has a well-rounded game that will fit into what we do offensively in our half-court system. Myles has outstanding foot work and hands for a big man. He has a lot of upside coming out of college. I'm excited to have Myles in Halifax."

The 6'5", 220lb. guard Shaquille Johnson was ranked as the 92nd-best recruit in the nation by ESPN.com at Milton High School, Georgia. Shaquille played his first year of college basketball at Auburn University and in 2014-15 Johnson started 31 of 33 games, averaged 13.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals per game for the Lancers at Longwood University, Farmville Virginia. Johnson was named to the Big

South All-Tournament Team after averaging 17.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 assists in Longwood's three-game run to the conference semi-final. He led Longwood in scoring 11 times and in assists 12 times, threw down a team-leading 32 dunks, posted a team-high 10 three-point plays and one four-point play. "Anytime you can add an elite athlete who also has a strong skill set like Shaq you certainly jump on the opportunity," stated Coach Keathley. "He can play three different positions on the floor offensively and because of his athleticism and physicality he can guard four positions on the court. He was one of the best athletes in college basketball last season. Shaq has a dynamic game that will allow us to do a lot of different things as a team. He's going to be an exciting player to coach and watch."
