Portland Winterhawks News Release
The Portland Winterhawks (2-1-0-0) fell 3-1 to the visiting Everett Silvertips (3-0-0-0) Friday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Everett struck first when Patrick Bajkov scored at 11:48 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, but the Hawks responded with a shorthanded goal at 15:48 when Caleb Jones intercepted a pass in his own end, rushed up ice and made a great feed to Alex Overhardt, who banged it in for a 1-1 tie.
It remained even until just 13.2 seconds remained in the second period, when Everett's Graham Millar scored a power play goal to give the Silvertips a 2-1 lead they took into the third.
The Silvertips took a two-goal lead 3:09 into the third when Matt Fonteyne scored to give them a 3-1 advantage. The Hawks pressed as they sought to cut the deficit, but the Silvertips held them off to finish with the win.
The game marked the first with the Coliseum's new videoboards, with fans able to see action and replays on the 16.5' x 9.5' screens.
The Hawks will be back in action tomorrow in Seattle at 7 p.m. in a game to be broadcast on Portland's CW. It's the start of an eight-game road trip that takes them through the WHL's East Division, and wraps up with a game in Spokane.
