San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Cordell Cato and defenders Kip Colvey and Shaun Francis have each been called to their respective national teams for a pair of international contests. Cato will join the Trinidad and Tobago National Team for a pair of third round Caribbean Cup qualifying matches as part of Group D. Cato will be with T&T from Oct. 2-12 and will compete against the Dominican Republic at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad on Oct. 5 and against Martinique at Stade Municipal Pierre-Aliker in Martinique on Oct. 11.
Cato, 24, has made 17 prior appearances for T&T, scoring two goals. In his MLS career, Cato has tallied seven goals and nine assists in 100 games played. He has made 12 starts in 17 total appearances this season for the Quakes.
Colvey will connect with the reigning OFC Nations Cup champions New Zealand All-Whites for two friendlies in the United States. New Zealand takes on Mexico at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee on Oct. 8 before facing off with the United States at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. on Oct. 11.
"This has got to be one of the biggest windows we've had in quite a few years playing against two world-class sides," said New Zealand head coach Anthony Hudson. "The States and Mexico are two teams that always compete well at the FIFA World Cup and they both have large followings so we're hoping for some big crowds to really test ourselves.
"These games are a dream for a lot of players and coaches so we'll be preparing in a way that we've never done before because we want to make the most out of this huge occasion."
Colvey, 22, was the Earthquakes' third-round SuperDraft selection in 2016 (No. 49 overall) and has made three starts in four total appearances for the club this season, tallying one assist.
Francis was called to the Jamaica National Team for two Caribbean Cup qualifiers as part of Group A. After taking on Suriname on Oct. 5 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Kingston, Jamaica, the Reggae Boyz take on Guyana at the National Stadium in Providence, Guyana on Oct. 11.
Francis, 29, has scored one goal in six prior appearances for Jamaica since his international debut in 2010. Over his seven-year MLS career, Francis has tallied five assists in 90 games played, making 17 starts for San Jose so far this season.
