INDIANAPOLIS (Wednesday) - The Jamaican Football Federation has named Indy Eleven midfielder/forward Omar Gordon to the 20-man squad that will participate in the upcoming Scotia Bank Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Men's Caribbean Cup Third Round, taking place from October 5-11.

Gordon will report to Jamaican National Team on Monday, allowing him to participate for Indy Eleven in Sunday's crucial clash at fellow Fall Season contender FC Edmonton (4:00 p.m. ET, live on ESPN3.com). The reigning Jamaican Red Stripe Premier League's leading scorer and most valuable player will then join his fellow "Reggae Boyz" for Caribbean Cup matches next Wednesday, Oct. 5, at home against Suriname (9:00 p.m. ET), and Tuesday, October 11, at Guyana (8:00 p.m. ET).

"I'm excited to be back in the national program for this great opportunity," said Gordon. "It's always a great feeling to represent your country. When you do get the chance you want to make sure you do well, so hopefully I can go back and make a big mark."

The call-up continues a breakout year for Gordon, who will turn 25 years of age between Caribbean Cup fixtures on October 8 - which also marks the date of the lone Indy Eleven match he'll miss while on national team duty, the squad's away affair at Jacksonville Armada FC.

Gordon has made one appearance for Jamaica's senior side, making his debut with a 40-minute stint off the bench in a 3-0 win over Cuba in an international friendly on March 30, 2015. The former standout with Jamaican club Montego Bay United is one of two NASL players named to Jamaica's roster for the Caribbean Cup tournament along with Minnesota United FC defender Damion Lowe.

"Any time your country calls for you to represent in international competition, it shows that as a footballer you are improving and moving in the right direction," said Indy Eleven head coach Tim Hankinson, who also coached Gordon at Montego Bay United last fall. "Our club is thrilled that Omar has earned this opportunity and we look forward to tracking him and Jamaica in the tournament in the coming weeks."

Since signing with Indy Eleven in April, Gordon has notched two goals and one assist in his 20 NASL regular season appearances (1,272 minutes). The speedy flanker also tallied once in Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play, Indy's opener in a 2-1 comeback win over Louisville City FC (USL) on June 1 in Third Round action.

The upcoming matches are pivotal for Jamaica, as the four winners of each three-team group will automatically qualify not just for the CFU Caribbean Cup Finals to be held in the United States in June 2017, but also for the 2017 edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the regional championship tournament for national teams in North American, Central America and the Caribbean. Jamaica claimed its sixth Caribbean Cup title the last time the tournament was staged in 2014, which lead to its surprising run to the 2015 Gold Cup Final that included a 2-1 Semifinal win over the United States.
