Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Lake County Captains (affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) in the first game of a three-game series. This set marks the final home series of 2016 for the Dragons.
Individual Notes * Brantley Bell had a nine-game hitting streak snapped on Monday. Over his last 10 games, he is 17 for 39, .436. He has reached base 35 times over his last 16 games (21 hits, 12 walks, 2 HBP). He is batting .389 (21 for 54) over these 16 games to raise his average from .236 to .257. He is hitting .344 in August with an on-base percentage of .449. * Nick Senzel has 27 extra base hits in 53 games with the Dragons. The only player in Dragons history to average more than 0.5 extra base hits per game and play in at least 50 games is Jay Bruce in 2006 (63 extra base hits in 117 games). Senzel's .539 slugging percentage would rank first in the Midwest League if he had enough plate appearances to qualify, his .410 on on-base percentage would rank second, and his .314 batting average would rank sixth. His .314 batting average is tied for seventh highest in a half in the current decade for the Dragons franchise. * Zack Shields has a nine-game hitting streak, batting .344. * Luis Gonzalez has an eight-game hitting streak, batting .379. * Chris Okey is batting .333 over his last 13 games. * Wendolyn Bautista fired a 9-inning complete game shutout on Friday, the first for a Dragons pitcher since August 28, 2008 when Enerio Del Rosario shutout Lansing. Bautista allowed four base runners (all singles), no walks, 7 strikeouts, and threw 100 pitches. * Ty Boyles over his last four starts: 23.2 IP, 2 R, 1 ER. * Dragons RHP Sandy Lugo over his last seven relief outings: 15.1 IP, 0 R, 11 H, 3 BB, 21 SO.
Team Notes * The Dragons have won nine of their last 10 home games but have lost three straight overall (at Bowling Green, Saturday-Monday). * The Dragons did not committed an error in the four-game series at Bowling Green. The last time the Dragons had gone an entire series (minimum three games) without an error was June 16-18, 2015 at South Bend.
