Kelly Cup Champ Returns to Aces

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA -He was an important piece to the Alaska Aces championship puzzle five years ago, and now Tyler Ruegsegger returns to try to recapture the magic with the Glacier Blue.

Head Coach and President of Hockey Operations Rob Murray announced Wednesday that Ruegsegger will return to Alaska, proud affiliate of the NHL's Vancouver Canucks and AHL's Utica Comets.

The 28 year old center from Lakewood, Colorado has not played the past two seasons, but is anxious to get back to Alaska to lace 'em up.

"I have a great passion for the game, and now that I'm fully healed from a number of injuries, I can't wait to play again," said Ruegsegger. "Alaska has a special place in my heart, so many great moments including our Kelly Cup win. Having the opportunity to play there again is great."

Murray is excited to have Ruegsegger coming back to Alaska.

"He's a hard worker, a great teammate," said Murray. "Tyler has a wealth of experience at the ECHL and AHL levels and is good in all aspects of the game. We couldn't be more excited to have him back in an Aces uniform."

The 5-11, 190 pound center played in 23 regular season games for the Aces in 2010-11, scoring 9 goals with 6 assists for 15 points. In 8 playoff games, Ruegsegger scored 4 goals along with 4 assists.

During the 2011-12 season, he played in 47 games, tallying 13 goals and dishing 12 assists.

Ruegsegger saw action in the AHL with Abbotsford, Bridgeport and Hershey, playing in 95 total games and scoring 12 goals with 12 assists for 24 points.

Prior to turning pro, Ruegsegger had a stellar four year career at the University of Denver, where he was a three-time recipient of the Dr. Art Mason Award, which is bestowed upon the hockey team's best scholar-athlete. He was selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American Second Team in his junior and senior years at UD. In 147 total college games, Ruegsegger racked up 123 points (56g-67a) and 134 penalty minutes with the Pioneers.
