Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Missouri Mavericks announced today that they have agreed to terms with defenseman Samuel Noreau and forward Shawn Pauly on standard player contracts for the 2016-17 season.

"We are very happy to add two players of Shawn's and Samuel's caliber," said Mavericks head coach John-Scott Dickson. "Shawn is a reliable player with a tireless work ethic and offensive upside. He's coming into his first year hungry to develop and bring energy. Samuel brings an element of toughness to our club, intensity in the defensive zone and an ability to clear the front of the net. He has a team-first attitude and is great with teammates which is important in the dressing room."

Noreau, a former fifth round draft pick (#136 overall) by the New York Rangers in the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft, is set to join the Mavericks for his fourth professional season. He spent 57 games with the Norfolk Admirals last season and was second on the team with 140 penalty minutes, and also chipped in 16 points (5g, 11a). Noreau began the 2015-16 season with the Evansville IceMen and amassed 24 penalty minutes in three games. His 164 total PIMs last season ranked 11th in the league.

For his career, Noreau has appeared in 188 ECHL games between Greenville, Norfolk and Evansville with 37 points (8g, 29a), 368 PIMs and a +13 plus/minus rating. As a rookie in 2014, the 6-foot-5, 225-pound defenseman helped Greenville to the Eastern Conference final with four assists in 14 Kelly Cup playoff games.

Prior to turning professional, Noreau played four seasons with Baie-Comeau of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and posted 63 points (18g, 45a) and 314 PIMs over 225 games.

Pauly, 24, comes to the Mavericks for his rookie season after four years with the University of Connecticut. The 6-foot-0, 190-pound forward set a career high with 21 points (7g, 14a) as a freshman in 2012-13 and matched it as a sophomore (9g, 12a) and senior (7g, 14a). As a junior he led the Huskies with 20 points (5g, 15a) over 36 games.

"The Mavericks are a tremendous organization and I've heard only positive things about the team, Coach Dickson and the fans," said Pauly. "It will be an exciting season and I look forward to not only the next step in my career, but to helping this team toward the goal of winning a championship."

Pauly ranks ninth all-time in UConn history with 140 games played, 12th with 55 assists and 16th with 83 points. Prior to his collegiate career, the Bellingham, Wash. native piled up 123 points (50g, 73a) over 155 games with the Wenatchee Wiled of the North American Hockey League.

"I have been working out and skating all summer for the start of this season and I'm really excited to hit the ice soon with my new teammates," Pauly added.

Noreau and Pauly join Rocco Carzo, Dane Fox, Darren Nowick, Kevin Tansey, Yuri Terao, Andrew Courtney, Bryce Aneloski and Dan Correale on the Mavericks' preseason roster.
