Manchester - Rowdy Tellez hit his 20th homer, but the Fisher Cats dropped a hard-fought 8-7, 11-inning decision to Trenton in the opener of the final homestand of the season on Monday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Trenton's Dante Bichette hit two homers and drove in the winning run with a double in the top of the 11th to give the playoff bound Thunder (84-51) a win in the series opener. Murphy Smith took the loss, allowing a lead-off walk to Mike Ford and the double to Bichette.
New Hampshire (64-71) had tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a two-run double by Ryan Lavarnway. The Fisher Cats put two on in the 11th, but Travis Hissong struck out Jon Berti to end the game.
Trenton opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Miguel Andujar ripped a two-out single and Mike Ford followed with his fourth home run to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Emilio Guerrero doubled and scored on a single by Derrick Loveless.
Each team scored four times on four hits in a wild fifth inning. Trenton used homers by Bichette Jr. and Dustin Fowler to open a 6-1 lead, only to have the Fisher Cats draw back within a run on an RBI single by Jason Leblebijian and three-run homer by Tellez.
Trenton added a run in the top of the ninth inning on Bichette's second homer of the game, but the Fisher Cats came back to tie in the bottom of the frame. Lavarnway delivered a two-run double off eventual winning pitcher Mark Montgomery (1-0) with two outs to force extra innings at 7-7.
