Louisville City Teams up for Opening of 5-A-Side Soccer Field

Louisville City FC and the City Collaborative have combined to bring a fast-paced, high-scoring style of soccer to opening weekend of ReSurfaced: The Liberty Build.

Already successful in events on Main and 10th streets dating back to 2014, ReSurfaced has transformed a three-quarter lot in the Phoenix Hill Neighborhood into a community activation space fostering civic engagement, entrepreneurialism -- and this fall, 5-A-Side soccer.

LouCity fans can register to play on ReSurfaced's opening nights, Sept. 8 and 9, in an organized competition on the pitch at the corner of East Liberty and South Shelby streets. After eight weeks of ReSurfaced, the field will then remain as a space for future soccer initiatives.

"We are thrilled to partner with City Collaborative on this project," said team president Amanda Duffy. "This purpose built field extends a unique and exciting opportunity to engage with the Louisville community and allows us to bring more soccer to the new and longtime supporters of the sport."

Teams are required to include eight members -- five starters and three subs -- and will be scheduled to play once at the top of the hour between 5-10 p.m. While not on the pitch, players and the general public can enjoy a selection of local food and drink available at ReSurfaced.

5-A-Side is version of soccer played on a smaller field (90 feet x 60 feet) which allows for shorter, engaging and accessible games. Opening night contests at ReSurfaced will run on a 25-minute clock.

LouCity fans are encouraged to attend ReSurfaced, where the club's players will be on hand for autographs and fan photos.

ReSurfaced's opening falls two days before LouCity hosts the Richmond Kickers at Louisville Slugger Field in the club's second-to-last home game of the regular season.
