Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - The Biscuits watched their season-high six-game winning streak come to an end in shocking fashion on Saturday night, falling 6-4 to the Mobile BayBears thanks to a Kevin Cron walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning at Hank Aaron Stadium.

Hunter Wood was on the mound for the Biscuits, and the right-hander would strike out a season-high nine batters in just 4.1 innings in a no decision before Mark Sappington came on to relieve the 23-year-old right-hander. Wood would allow just one earned run on seven hits before being removed, as the BayBears led 2-1 entering the fifth inning.

In the top half of that inning, Willy Adames' RBI-triple would tie the game, and a Jake Bauers RBI-single would hand the Biscuits their first lead of the night in the subsequent at-bat. A Cade Gotta RBI-double in the seventh increased that lead to two, before Cron socked a solo home run off Biscuits reliever Jeff Ames in the bottom half of the same inning.

It was 4-3 Biscuits entering the ninth when Montgomery closer Jaye Chapman came on and issued a leadoff walk to Evan Marzilli and then a single to Domingo Leyba. After Jamie Westbrook laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the baserunners to second and third, Cron stepped up again and bashed a walk-off three-run homer over the left field wall to win the game 6-4. Cron now stands alone as the Southern League leader in longballs with 24.

The Biscuits now trail the Jackson Generals by a game-and-a-half in the division, and the Chattanooga Lookouts by a game in the Wild Card standings with nine games to play, as they look to get back on track on Sunday with Chase Whitley (1-0) on the hill against Cole Johnson (0-5) at 5:05 PM.
