Columbus Crew SC News Release
Ethan Finlay notched his fifth goal of the season in the match ... the midfielder now has four goals over his last four tilts.
Justin Meram scored from the penalty spot in the 84th minute ... it was his first penalty kick goal and attempt in his MLS regular-season career.
By providing the assist on Finlay's goal, Meram recorded his eighth helper of the 2016 regular season, extending his career-best single-season total in the category as well as his team-leading total ... Nicolai Naess also registered an assist on the goal, his first with Columbus.
Steve Clark registered his sixth clean sheet of the 2016 campaign as well as the 20th of his MLS regular-season career in tonight's match.
Columbus Crew SC recorded 18 crosses from open play during the first half of tonight's contest ... that is a League record by any one MLS club in any first half this season ... the previous mark was 16, registered three times, including once by Columbus against Toronto FC on July 13.
Crew SC forward Adam Jahn started the contest against his former team in San Jose, his first start for the Black & Gold ... Jahn registered six shots in the match, leading Columbus ... the forward was acquired from the Earthquakes in exchange for Targeted Allocation Money on July 30, 2016.
Tonight's match was played in front of 20,031 supporters, the fourth sellout of the 2016 regular season at MAPFRE Stadium ... that is one sellout shy of tying for the all-time Black & Gold single-season record, set in both the 2014 and 2015 regular seasons (five).
Crew SC next plays on Saturday, September 3 when it travels to Carson, California to meet the LA Galaxy (10:30 p.m. ET / The CW Columbus, Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, BCSN2, CD102.5 FM, La Mega 103.1 FM, English radio stream available on ColumbusCrewSC.com).
