Three Home Runs Power Chiefs Past PawSox

Syracuse, NY - The Syracuse Chiefs topped the Pawtucket Red Sox, 7-2, on Saturday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Caleb Ramsey went 3 for 3 with a home run, one of three home runs the Chiefs hit in the win. Mat Latos was effective on the mound for the Chiefs, pitching six innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits, while striking out four.

Pawtucket (89-83) scored the game's first run in the top of the third inning. Ryan LaMarre led off with a solo home run to center field, giving the PawSox a 1-0 lead. The home run was LaMarre's tenth of the year.

Syracuse (58-75) answered in the bottom of the inning off Pawtucket's starter Brian Johnson. Caleb Ramsey opened the inning with a single to center field. After a strikeout, Michael Taylor grounded into a force out, retiring Ramsey at second. With Taylor on first and two outs, Brian Goodwin hit a home run to right center field, giving the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. The home run was Goodwin's 13th on the year.

The PawSox evened the score in the top of the fourth. With one out, Allen Craig reached on an error by the shortstop Jason Martinson. Dan Butler followed with a double to left-center field. With runners on second and third and one out, Deven Marrero grounded into a fielder's choice, bringing home Craig to tie the score, 2-2.

The Chiefs regained the lead in a five-hit, five-run bottom of the fourth. Matt Skole and Pedro Severino opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Two batters later, Jason Martinson hit a three-run home run to right field. Ramsey followed with a home run of his own to right, putting the Chiefs on top 6-2. Christopher Bostick followed the back-to-back home runs with a double to left-center field and advanced to third base on a Michael Taylor fly ball in next at-bat. Bostick then scored when Johnson threw a wild pitch by catcher Butler, giving the Chiefs the final 7-2 lead.

Syracuse returns to action Sunday afternoon for the third game of a four-game set with Pawtucket. Joe Ross will start on rehab for the Chiefs opposite Roenis Elias for the PawSox. Game time is set for 1:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
