Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, Calif.- Osvaldo Duarte put the JetHawks on top early with a two-run homer in the first inning, but they could not push anything else across in a 6-2 loss to the High Desert Mavericks on Thursday night at The Hangar.

With the Mavericks departing the California League following the season, this was the final regular season contest ever between the two franchises.

Duarte's home run was his sixth with the JetHawks. It scored Myles Straw, who opened the inning with a single. The JetHawks threatened in the second, but a controversial interference call on the bases went against them and hindered their chances to add to the lead.

Lancaster starter Brock Dykxhoorn escaped a jam in the first inning, stranding a pair of runners, and then settled into a groove. Entering the sixth, he had retired eight in a row. Luke Tendler led off the sixth with a single and two batters later Jose Cardona tied the game with a two-run home run. It came on an 0-2 pitch with two out.

Dykxhoorn took a no-decision. The right-hander tossed six innings, allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out five. High Desert starter Jeffrey Springs also did not factor into the final decision. He went five innings and gave up four hits, walking two and striking out five.

Alex Winkelman pitched around a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh and tossed a scoreless frame, but the JetHawks left the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame and failed to break the tie.

Winkelman (0-4) ran into trouble in the eighth. With one out, Jose Trevino singled and Jose Cardona followed with a walk.

Josh Altmann, playing in his first game with High Desert, was up next and delivered an RBI single to put the Mavericks on top for good. They added three more runs in the inning to pad their lead.

Matt Milroy (3-0) picked up the win for the Mavericks with a pair of scoreless innings out of the High Desert bullpen. Scott Weathersby threw a scoreless inning in relief for Lancaster.

The JetHawks hit the road on Friday to open a three-game weekend series against the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.

The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
