LAST TIME OUT: The Hartford Yard Goats put up 11 runs on 17 hits and thumped the B-Mets, 11-4, Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium. Kevin McGowan (4-1) took the loss in a spot start after allowing three runs over three innings and Paul Paez surrendered six runs on seven hits as Hartford pulled away in the fifth.

BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Tyler Herron will start for the B-Mets, having taken the loss in each of his previous five outings. Herron last appeared on Saturday against Portland and allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits over three innings, the shortest outing of his season. He has opposed the Baysox once and took a no-decision after seven innings with two runs, one earned, on eight hits on 7/19 in Binghamton. The B-Mets walked off winners in that game, 3-2, in 11 innings.

BOWIE STARTER: LHP John Means gets the starting nod for the Baysox, the first of his career against the B-Mets. Means began his season with Frederick (BAL: High-A) and went 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA in nine starts before joining the Baysox. He last pitched on Saturday against Akron and allowed three runs over 5.2 innings, taking a no-decision in an 8-5 RubberDucks win.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The B-Mets begin their final road trip of the season on Thursday, an eight-game swing featuring stops in Bowie and Altoona. They are 29-34 in road games this season and 25-31 in games played outside of Binghamton. The B-Mets went 4-3 while playing as the road team at NYSEG Stadium against the Hartford Yard Goats.

RELATIVE STRANGERS: Binghamton and Bowie will begin their second and final series against one another on Thursday. The B-Mets swept the first meeting, a three-game set from 7/17-19 at NYSEG Stadium. Seven games against the Baysox represents the fewest that the B-Mets will play against any opponent in 2016.

HIT HARD: The B-Mets allowed 11 runs on 17 hits on Wednesday, tied for the third most runs allowed in a game this season and tied for the second most hits by an opponent.

A FIFTH TO FORGET: Hartford put up six runs on seven hits in the fifth inning on Wednesday, tied for the most runs and hits allowed by the B-Mets in a single inning this season. Binghamton was also hit for six runs on seven hits in the fourth inning of game two of a doubleheader on 7/2 against New Hampshire.

AN OUTING TO FORGET: Paul Paez surrendered six runs and seven hits over 1.1 innings on Wednesday, matching Tim Peterson for the most runs and hits allowed by a B-Met reliever in an outing in 2016. Peterson did so in 1.2 innings on 5/25 vs Richmond, his 2016 B-Mets debut.

NOT MISSING BATS: Tyler Herron owns an opponent batting average of .359, the second highest in the EL since 7/2, when he made his Mets debut.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: Game two of the four-game series is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Friday.
