Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - On October 23, RiverDogs Director of Fun Bill Murray will add an arguably more prestigious title to his name: Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor recipient. From the stage of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, a star-studded lineup will salute the achievements of the comedic trailblazer, and Charleston RiverDogs co-owner.
The ceremony itself takes place on Sunday, October 23, and will air exclusively on PBS/ETV on Friday, October 28, but fans don't have to wait until then to mingle their love of Dogs baseball and Public TV and Radio. On Thursday, August 25 the RiverDogs will host ETV Endowment / SC Public Radio Night at Riley Park. On-air personalities from SC Public Radio will be present throughout the night, including a ceremonial first pitch from Sonatas and Soundscapes host Kate McKinney.
Osei Chandler, the man behind the longest running reggae show on the East Coast (Roots Music Karamu), will lend his baritone voice and introduce a few of his favorite reggae tunes to the Thirsty Thursday crowd. Members of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra will perform the National Anthem and seventh inning stretch, along with a few other musical surprises to delight the crowd.
Along with the SC Radio and TV participation, the RiverDogs will be inducting the five newest members to the Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame at 6:30 pm pregame. The Class of 2016, the largest in the history of the hall going back to 2003, will include former Charleston Mayor and avid baseball fan Joseph P. Riley, Jr., RiverDogs President Emeritus Mike Veeck, broadcaster Ted Byrne, and former College of Charleston standouts Chris Campbell and Nick Chigges.
It's also a "Back to School" Thirsty Thursday night at The Joe featuring dollar beers and DJ Natty Heavy in the Ashley View pub to wrap up the penultimate homestand of the season. College students can purchase specialty discounted five dollar tickets with a student ID at the box office.
Ticket information for the RiverDogs homestand and any of the remaining home games can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com. Tickets for Game Two of the SAL Divisional Series on Friday, September, 9 at 7:05pm are now available. Those that can't make it to the park can follow every pitch of the RiverDogs season on WTMA 1250 AM and streaming online at riverdogs.com.
