Toledo Mud Hens News Release

The Mud Hens topped the Bats on Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field by a score of 1-0. Toledo continued to have their way against the Bats, as they have had all season, posting an overall record of 18-6.

The pitchers' duel was headlined by Hens starter Warwick Saupold, who came into this game with a 5-2 record and a 2.74 ERA. The righty tossed 7 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits and no earned runs while striking out three, earning his sixth win in a Hens uniform this season.

Former Tigers pitcher Alfredo Simon toed the rubber for the opposing team tonight, going five innings and allowing five hits and one earned run.

The Bats threatened early in the game, recording two straight singles with no outs in the first inning. A backhanded snatch from 1B Dean Green forced a fielder's choice at second base. The pitcher's best friend, a 4-6-3 double play, ended the Bats' campaign.

Simon found himself in a bit of trouble in the top of the third, after issuing a walk to 2B Argenis Diaz and allowing a single to DH Jose Iglesias. However, a fly out and strike out ended the inning for the Mud Hens.

CF JaCoby Jones led off the fourth inning with a triple for the Mud Hens. Following a walk issued to LF Jason Krizan, who is currently on a 7-game hit streak, C Miguel Gonzalez continued to have a hot bat and knocked in his 29th RBI of the season on a sac fly to center field. Gonzalez went 1-3 on the night with his third double in two days to go along with his RBI.

On in relief for the Hens was Angel Nesbitt in the 8th inning. After recording one out, McClendon called upon lefty Chad Bell who did his job and retired the Louisville batter. Logan Kensing finished off the 8th for Toledo, forcing a pop up.

Joe Jiminez, the fifth pitcher in the game for the Hens, shut down Louisville in the ninth.

Continuing his rehab assignment from the Tigers, Iglesias went 1-5. He is now batting a .333 with Toledo.

The Hens return home tomorrow for a two-game series with the Columbus Clippers. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. You may purchase tickets for 'Elvis Tribute Night' here. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
