Glens Falls Dragons News Release

The Glens Falls Dragons (20-27) came in to Saturday night's game at East Field looking for their 20th win on the season. To do that they would have to get past the PGCBL East Division Champion Amsterdam Mohawks (34-15). The Dragons jumped to a 3-0 lead and received a stellar pitching performance from Drew Marino to take a 3-2 win.

The Dragons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third off of Amsterdam starter Paul Milton (Indiana). Dan Lowndes (Siena) led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Josh Brown (Skidmore) singled to put runners on the corners and advanced to second on a fielder's choice. Both runners scored on a two RBI single Brian Uliana (Rider).

Glens Falls picked up another run in the fifth. Hunter Szaflarski (Lock Haven) singled and Chris Kwitzer (U. Buffalo) doubled to put runners at second and third. Szaflarski then scored on a very close play at the plate after a Nate Cardy (Gannon) fly ball to make it 3-0.

Amsterdam got two runs back in the top of the sixth. Tristen Carranza (New Mexico State) delivered a one out single and came around to score on an infield single by Eric Downy (SUNY Brockport). Austin Botello (New Mexico) also scored on the play after a Glens Falls throwing error to make it 3-2. Botello had singled earlier in the inning. Glens Falls starter Drew Marino (Polk State) went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and two run, only one of which was earned. Marino struck out eight, while walking only one. Marino earned the win to move 3-1 on the year. Milton 3-2 took the loss.

Matt Stojkov (Northwoods) pitched the last 3 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to earn the save.

Uliana had a pair of hits and two RBIs to lead the Dragons. Cardy added an RBI.

Downey was 3 for 4 for Amsterdam, while Carranza and Andrew Rouse had two hits each.

The Dragons finish the regular season at home Sunday at East Field with a 5:00 P.M. doubleheader against the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs.
