St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Tomas Nido crushed a go-ahead three-run homer as part of a six-run eighth inning and the St. Lucie Mets roared back for a 6-3 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Saturday at Tradition Field.

The teams played a scoreless game through seven innings. Lakeland's Zac Shepherd broke the tie with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning off of Ben Griset.

The Mets quickly started a rally in the bottom of the inning when Michael Katz, Patrick Biondi and Vinny Siena all singled to load the bases. A run-scoring ground out by Luis Guillorme cut the deficit to 3-1.

Jonathan Johnson followed with a line out. That set the stage for David Thompson, who singled up the middle on a 2-0 pitch from Gerson Moreno to bring home Biondi and Siena to tie the game 3-3.

Kevin Kaczmarski then drew a walk from Moreno. Nido came up and belted a 1-2 pitch halfway up a palm tree well over the left-center field wall to send the Mets and Tradition Field into a frenzy.

Corey Taylor pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 16th save.

Griset was credited with the win.

Nido went 2 for 4. He increased his league leading batting average to .322.

Mets starter P.J. Conlon logged four scoreless innings in his return from the DL. He only threw 45 pitches as the Mets eased him back into action.

Paul Paez contributed three scoreless innings.

Next Up: The Mets (55-47, 20-15) and Flying Tigers (45-57, 11-22) play game 3 of their four-game series on Sunday. First pitch from Tradition Field is 1 p.m.
