Lancaster JetHawks News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Three solo home runs helped carry starter Dean Deetz and the JetHawks to their fourth-straight win, a 5-2 defeat of the Bakersfield Blaze on Friday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Osvaldo Duarte, Jamie Ritchie and Jason Martin each went deep on a night when the JetHawks (58-46) improved to a season-best 12 games over .500 and increased their first place lead in the second half to 3.5 games over Lake Elsinore.

Dean Deetz (6-5) earned the win and picked up a quality start with six solid innings. He held the Blaze to just one run on four hits while striking out seven. He issued three walks.

Lancaster loaded the bases in the second inning against Blaze starter Anthony Misiewicz and came away with two runs to jump on the board with first. Drew Ferguson, who finished 2-for-4 after going 4-for-4 in the series opener, scored the game's first run on a wild pitch. The second run scored when Marc Wik plated Martin on a grounder to third.

Duarte's home run, his second with the JetHawks, came with one out in the third inning to give Lancaster a 3-0 lead.

Ritchie made the score 4-0 with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning.

The Blaze (58-47) scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Deetz issued four-pitch walks to back-to-back hitters with one out, and then walked another batter to load the bases. Tyler Marlette scored on a Gianfranco Wawoe infield single.

Lancaster got the run back on Martin's home run in the sixth. The long ball was his 17th of the season, tying him for second in the Cal League.

Alex Winkelman relieved Deetz and allowed one run over 2.1 innings. He allowed two runners to reach base in the ninth inning and the JetHawks called on Kevin Comer to come in from the bullpen to finish the game. He recorded the final two outs for his second save.

Bobby Boyd went hitless in the game to end his hitting streak at 10 games.

The JetHawks and Blaze continue their four-game series with game three on Saturday at Sam Lynn Ballpark. Akeem Bostick will make the start against Art Warren. First pitch is 7:30 p.m.
