The Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Las Vegas 51s 8-1 Friday night from Chukchansi Park. Fresno starter Brady Rodgers (10-3) earned the win after he dazzled for seven innings, allowing one run (earned), on five hits, walking one and punching out four. Las Vegas starter Darin Gorski (3-2) suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (earned), on seven hits, walking one and striking out three in two and two-third innings. The Grizzlies' offense sparked for seven runs in the third, en route to the win.
Las Vegas took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Gavin Cecchini (2-for-3) singled to center, scoring T.J. Rivera (1-for-2).
The Grizzlies brought 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third, spanking seven hits and scoring seven times. First, A.J. Reed (1-for-2) singled to left, scoring two runs. Next, Teoscar Hernandez (3-for-4) smoked a double to left, adding two more runs. Then, Jon Singleton singled sharply to right, scoring Hernandez. Andrew Aplin continued the inning by crushing a double to right, knocking in Singleton. Finally, Max Stassi raked a double to left, giving Fresno a 7-1 advantage.
Hernandez extended the lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh when he destroyed a pitch to left. It was his fourth homer of the season.
Fresno reliever Kevin Chapman finished the game by tossing two scoreless innings, striking out one. Jon Kemmer extended the current team-high hit streak to eight games, after he singled in the third. The Grizzlies improved to 15-11 in series finales and 7-32 when the opponent scores first.
The Grizzlies travel to Reno for a four-game series with the Aces starting Saturday night. Fresno RHP Joe Musgrove (5-3, 3.81) toes the rubber with Reno LHP Edwin Escobar (5-2, 4.83). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT.
