Worcester Bravehearts News Release

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Worcester Bravehearts (31-15) took care of the Torrington Titans with ease on Wednesday night, defeating them by a final score of 11-1. Worcester jumped out to an early five run lead in the first inning and never looked back. The Bravehearts got the scoring started early in the first inning, putting up five runs on Torrington's starter, Nick Williams (Union/Milford, CT). The bulk of the runs came courtesy of an Austin Lonestar (Saint Mary's/Danville, CA) three-run home run. A late addition to the lineup, Lonestar wasted no time making his impact known, swinging for and reaching the fence on the first pitch he saw. Brady Furdon (Wheaton College/Natick, MA) got the start for Worcester and had a successful outing. He threw for six innings and earned the win, giving up just one run on six hits to go with five strikeouts and three walks. The Titans' lone run was scored in the fourth inning to lessen the gap to 5-1. The Bravehearts' bats wasted no time getting Furdon more run support, plating five runs over the course of the next three innings. Their runs came in a variety of ways and at the hands of a number of players as the team pushed its lead to 10-1. Notable stat lines on the night included Rafael Bournigal (Belmont/Mulberry, FL), who recorded a RBI in the sixth inning to go with his three runs scored and four hits in five at-bats. Joe Caico (New Haven/Hopedale, MA) also got in on the action, contributing two scored runs of his own on top of two RBIs and a walk, all while going two for three at the plate. Lonestar ended his day with two hits in two at-bats in addition to his four RBIs and two runs scored. Cory Teachout (Ashland University/Medina, OH) and Taylor Williams (Xavier/Castle Rock, CO) provided strong relief work for Worcester as they kept the Titans off of the scoreboard in their three combined innings pitched. The Bravehearts went on to add one more run in the eighth inning to cement their win at 11-1. Williams ended up receiving the loss for Torrington after allowing seven runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. The Worcester Bravehearts' next game is on the road in Nashua against the Silver Knights at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 28th. The team will return home on Friday, July 29th to play the Pittsfield Suns in Worcester at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for all future Bravehearts home games are available at the Hanover Insurance Park box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
