Cron Carries BayBears in 2-1 Walk-Off Win

Mobile, Ala. - Kevin Cron sent the home-town crowd happy with a RBI walk-off single as the Mobile BayBears topped the Biloxi Shuckers 2-1 on Wednesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium. With two outs and the game tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Cron drove in his second run of the game with a base hit through the left side of the infield to score Domingo Leyba for the winning run. With the victory, Mobile pulls into a first-place tie with the Mississippi Braves in the Southern League South Division.
Mobile (18-14, 50-52) scored the first run of the game in the very first inning. With one out, Leyba tripled and then scored two batters later when Cron knocked him in with a base hit to left, giving the BayBears the 1-0 lead.
Biloxi (12-20, 51-50) evened the score at 1-1 with a solo home run from Javier Bentancourt in the top of the fourth inning. Shuckers starting RHP Taylor Jungmann shutdown the BayBears bats after the first inning. The righty did not allow a single hit for seven straight innings past the first frame. Jungmann was forced to settle for a no decision after tossing eight total innings, allowing just the one run on two hits, while walking one and striking out five batters.
The win was credited to BayBears RHP Matt Stites (4-1) who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning. BayBears starting RHP Taylor Clarke did not factor in the decision despite allowing just one run on four hits, not walking any batters for the fifth start in-a-row.

The BayBears and Shuckers continue their five game series with game three at MGM Park in Biloxi. The series concludes on Saturday night in Biloxi. The BayBears will return to the Hank Aaron stadium for a five game homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts that runs from Sunday, July 31 - Thursday, August 4th.
