Jose Paulino Tabbed with Player of the Week Honors

July 27, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - The Eugene Emeralds needed a great performance from starter Jose Paulino to clinch a playoff spot for the first time in five years-he delivered. Paulino dominated the Hillsboro Hops in his seven innings pitched by only giving up two hits and one walk. He struck out 7 of the 24 batters he faced which gave him a .51 ERA on the outing. That performance landed Paulino the Northwest League's Player of the Week honors.

His impressive outing wasn't surprising to those who have followed the Ems this season. Paulino also earned Player of the Week honors in early July. Out of the seven games pitched for the Ems, Paulino has not given up more than 5 hits in an outing and has only had five earned runs against him. His outstanding performance in Eugene earned him a 1.13 ERA in his 40 innings pitched.

Paulino's hard work in the offseason showed in his time with the Emeralds, which is why he was recently bumped up to the South Bend Cubs. His impact in Eugene was undeniable, and we wish him the same success on his journey to Wrigley.

The Eugene Emeralds are the short-season Class A team of the Chicago Cubs. In 2015, six of the top 30 Cubs prospects spent time in Eugene including Ian Happ, Donnie Dewees and Eloy Jimenez. With 61 years of history in Eugene, the Emeralds are the longest tenured and only founding member remaining in the Northwest League.
