Offense-Filled Roadtrip Ends with 10-6 Win

PORTLAND, ME - Another game and another explosion by the Trenton Thunder offense in a 10-6 Camp Day victory over the Portland Sea Dogs.
The Thunder trailed 1-0 heading into the 3rd inning against Teddy Stankiewicz and for the second-straight night exploded for a huge inning to put runs on the board. With five hits, including a three-run home run by Dustin Fowler, the Thunder jumped out to a 5-1 lead.
Later in the game, Fowler tripled to left center field to cap his multi-hit night. The triple was his ninth of the season and tied him for the single-season franchise record with Justin Christian (2006) and Tonayne Brown (2002).
Portland responded immediately to Trenton's offense with a five-run inning of their own off Thunder starting pitcher, Daniel Camarena. That put the onus back on Trenton to put runs on the board and they responded by scoring the game's final five runs to pull away for the win.
The last five runs came off Ty Buttry (2.0 IP, 3 R) and Ben Taylor (2.0 IP, 2 R)- including a two-run homer over the Maine Monster in the 9th inning from Cito Culver. Trenton saw six relief pitchers in the series and scored at least 2R off of each of them. Portland's bullpen allowed 20 R/19 ER in 9.0 IP the last two games.
The Thunder stay 5.0 games ahead of the Hartford Yard Goats for second place in the East Division after Hartford earned an 8-3 win over the Bowie Baysox earlier in the afternoon. The Reading Fightin Phils hold a 5.5 game lead over the Thunder at the time this article went to press. They host the Binghamton Mets at 7:00 p.m.
With the win, Trenton's record sits at 64-40 (.615), a season-best 24 games above .500 after going 5-2 on the roadtrip. The seven-game roadtrip finished with the Thunder offense plating 49 runs (7.0 RPG), 81 hits (11.6 HPG), 36 BB/4 HBP/117 baserunners (16.7 baserunners/G). This equates to a .325 team AVG and a .401 OBP on the road the past week.
The Thunder return to ARM & HAMMER Park for the start of a seven-game homestand with the Altoona Curve Thursday night. Postgame fireworks are presented by Kia, set to boy band music presented by 94.5 PST.
