Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Quakes completed a three-game sweep of Inland Empire on Wednesday afternoon, beating the 66ers by a final of 4-2 at LoanMart Field.

Edwin Rios clubbed his 16th homer of the year to get Rancho off to a fast start, helping the Quakes win their fourth straight game overall and improve to 18-6 overall against their I-10 rivals.

Rios smashed a two-run homer to right in the first inning, estimated at 449 feet, tying Johan Mieses for the team-lead at 16, giving the Quakes a 2-0 lead.

Quakes' starter Andrew Sopko was sharp on Wednesday, but did give up a pair of runs in the third, as Inland Empire got a two-run single with two outs from David Fletcher, temporarily tying the game at 2-2.

The Quakes would retake the lead in the bottom of the inning though, as Yusniel Diaz brought home what turned out to the game-winner. The Diaz single plated Michael Ahmed and Matt Beaty to put Rancho up 4-2 against Inland Empire starter Alex Klonowski (7-11).

Sopko (11-2) allowed just two runs on six hits, with four strikeouts over six innings, earning his league-leading 11th win of the year.

The Rancho bullpen was brilliant again for a third straight day, as Yaisel Sierra and Adam Bray worked three scoreless frames to end it. Bray struck out the side in the ninth, earning his first save of the year.

Rancho (19-14, 61-42) will see another Dodgers' rehabber on Thursday night, as lefty Brett Anderson is scheduled to start for the Quakes, as they open a four-game series at LoanMart Field versus the High Desert Mavericks. The Mavs will send Adam Quintana (3-4) to the mound in the opener.

Thursday is another Thirsty Thursday with drink specials throughout the night, thanks to the Kindred Corporation. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon ... Go Quakes!
