Trio of Home Runs Lead Spokane Past Tri-City 5-4

July 27, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA - After missing out on the playoffs due to a tie-breaker Tri-City arrived in Spokane with only one thing on their mind - revenge. Unfortunately for the brokenhearted Dust Devils, the Indians don't seem content with just winning the first half. A day after clinching the Northwest League North Division and an automatic playoff berth, Spokane used three home runs to rally past Tri-City 5-4 in front of 4,664 fans at Avista Stadium for Kids Night & OTTO's Birthday Bash presented by Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, 95.3 KPND, and Kids Newspaper.

The Dust Devils raced out to an early 4-1 lead as they scored twice in the second and third innings against Spokane starter Nick Green. That was all the offense Tri-City could muster though, as relievers Kevin Lenik (1-1) and Alex Daniele combined to strike out six over five innings of scoreless work.

The Indians scored once in the second on an error before releasing a barrage of home runs to storm past the Dust Devils. First baseman Stephen Lohr drilled an opposite field, two-run shot off The Depot in the fourth and Clay Middleton connected on his first professional round tripper in the fifth to tie the game. Luis Terrero joined the big fly parade with his second longball of the year in the bottom of the sixth to provide the game's final margin.

Brallan Perez collected two hits while Lohr, Middleton, Terrero, Xavier Turner, Alex Kowalczyk, and Josh Merrigan all had one base knock in the win. The victory improved Spokane's overall record to 20-19 including a 12-8 mark at the friendly confines of Avista Stadium.

Tomorrow's game is $100 Strikeout Night & Yoke's $1 Family Feast Night presented by Banner Bank, Yoke's Fresh Market, KXLY 920, and 92.9 ZZU.
